Jaclyn & Robert - Wedding Highlights

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Imagine having two daughters plan their weddings in the same year - only four months apart - June and October.  Jaclyn is the October bride in this scenario and I have been looking forward to this wedding since I first met this family back in June, and I’m so glad I got to be a part of both of these incredible weddings.

Jaclyn & Robert’s day took place in Saratoga Springs with the ceremony at St. Clement’s and the reception at Saratoga National Golf Club.  The day started with the forecast calling for downpours in the afternoon, however the rain held off and blue skies and sunshine made an appearance by the time the reception got under way.  Sharon & Kristen from Captured Moments by Sharon Mahar took advantage of the change in weather and brought the newlyweds outside for a series of quick, beautiful shots in the awesome light.  This duo is so much fun to work with, we always have a great time when they are around.  (Sharon doesn’t blog though, so I’ve included a couple of photos from the wedding below the video so you can check out her work.)

Back inside, the best man had everyone laughing when, during his toast, he offered Rob some words of advice since they both had married “pretty little Italian women, with big Italian families”.  After dinner, Mike Garrasi from Music Man Entertainment got the party started.  He didn’t need to do much though - not with this crowd.  They were there to party and that’s just what they did - owwww!  Jaclyn’s nephews entertained everyone with a performance to “Boom Boom Pow”, Jaclyn’s brother and cousin snuck up on and danced around people during “What Is Love” (they got me again!), Robert’s grandmother was out on the dance floor all day, there were sing-a-longs, a 40th anniversary dedication to Jaclyn’s parents, and Jaclyn’s sister and sister-in-law showed up in sombreros at one point (don’t ask!).  The night ended to “New York, New York” (where the bride & groom live) with the crowd forming a huge circle around the happy couple.

Also, I have to give a quick plug to Jaclyn’s sister, Lindsay (the June bride).  She designed all the printed materials - invitations, programs, menus, etc. and just started her own business - check her out here.

Now, onto the video.  Here is the highlight video from Jaclyn & Robert’s October 2009 wedding.  Feel free to leave comments for the happy couple.

Karrie & Jeff - Wedding Highlights

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Karrie & Jeff, two of Troy’s Finest, got married in September in - you guessed it - Troy!  The ceremony took place at St. Augustine’s where huge flower “K” & “J” initials greeted the guests on the church doors.  The ceremony got off to a somewhat late start, prompting the priest to talk about some instances where a bride or groom was left at the altar in his sermon - not that it was a concern here, he was just sayin’.

Instead of a limo, the bridal party hopped on a trolley and headed to the reception at the Franklin Plaza.  It was our 5th wedding there this year and a great way to end the season at this venue (we’ll be back in February though!).   We also got to work with other awesome vendors - photographer Christina Primero and her assistant, Kat (who we worked with again two weeks later), and DJ Fernando from The Piano Man’s DJ Productions (who rocked another wedding with us again three weeks later).

At the reception, we got to see a former bride & groom and two of the wildest cake in the face smashes of the year.  Karrie did a smash and throw and Jeff countered with a smooth smash that almost looked unexpected.  (Note to couples - make sure you both agree to this before you try it yourselves - I’ve seen it go wrong before).   The rest of the night was followed by dancing and singing, yummy apple crisp dessert served in addition to the cake, a late evening snack of sliders and fries, and more dancing - it was a great crowd.

Though I didn’t get to see her that day, I’d like to make a special mention of Tina from Flawless by Tina.  Karrie looked absolutely beautiful - even after the cake in the face.

Maggie & Erik - Wedding Highlights

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

I love Irish weddings - and this one reaffirmed why!

Maggie & Erik were married on a beautiful September day at the Our Lady of Knock Shrine in a ceremony that included bagpipes, music and singing.   Afterwards we went to a place that Maggie had previously scouted out for photos. It was at the edge of a horse form with a magnificent view. Photographer Mitch Wojnarowicz captured the images that day and took some amazing photos. I saw the photo gallery and fell in love with their photos, so I posted a few of them below the video so you can see for yourself (it was hard to choose just a few).

The reception took place at the Shamrock House in East Durham, which is owned by Maggie’s parents. They set up a huge tent on the grounds and Billy Keenan and the PrimeTime Showband provided part of the entertainment.  The rest was provided by the bride & groom, their family and friends.  We were treated to a bagpipe performance, stepdancing, singing, and musical performances - including Maggie’s grandmother on the accordian.  There was even a little nostalgia thrown in when one of the bridesmaids changed into the bridesmaid dress from Maggie’s parents wedding from the 70’s and asked Maggie’s father to dance.

The end of the reception came and it was time for us to leave, but the party was just getting started.  They moved indoors to continue celebrating with what I am sure was an awesome after party.

Here is the highlight video from Maggie & Erik’s September 2009 wedding.  Feel free to leave comments for the happy couple - and don’t forget to check out the photos below the video.

Maria & Elois - Wedding Highlights

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

When I arrived at her parent’s house, Maria was ready - she just had to get into her dress.  She was totally calm.   Then I started filming and the photographers arrived and started shooting.  That’s when it changed - when it hit her that it was really happening.

The ceremony was held at the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at Siena College.  Maria’s father walked her down the aisle to where Elois (aka Bubba) was waiting for her.   Everything went according to plan and after they were pronounced husband and wife, everyone headed to the Franklin Plaza for the reception.

After a quick nighttime photo session with Matt and Jamaica from Matt Ramos Photography, the party started.  Chris from Cool Cat Entertainment introduced the bridal party and the Franklin Plaza staff lit up the room with sparklers as Maria & Bubba entered the room.  Side notes: Matt worked on his birthday for this wedding - what dedication; and he has already posted some awesome photos from Maria & Bubba’s weddding on his blog - check them out here

Maria decided to put a twist on the bouquet/garter toss tradition.  Instead of inviting up all the single ladies, she had all the married ladies meet on the dance floor.  She tossed the bouquet and the lucky recipient’s husband had to put the garter on her.  They were such good sports - especially for being married for 37 years.  The rest of the night was filled with dancing to current hits, oldies but goodies, and the chicken dance (which was dedicated to Maria’s grandmother).  The night ended to “Last Dance” which started with a group hug on the dance floor and ended with everyone having a great time.

Courtney & Jeffrey- Wedding Highlights

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

One of the things I love about weddings is when the couple is really into each other during the day - paying attention to each other, dancing together and lots of kissing. Courtney & Jeff were one of those couples.

The day couldn’t have been more perfect. Courtney & Jeff planned the wedding from out of state and had thought of every detail. The only thing they couldn’t control was the weather - which turned out to be beautiful. The ceremony took place in the historic First Reformed Church of Schenectady in the Stockade, and the reception followed just over the bridge at the Glen Sanders Mansion. Courtney scheduled some extra time between the two which Joe & JP of Joe Elario Photography took advantage of to get some awesome photos (click here to see them). This was our second time working with this duo - in the same weekend no less - and we had a great time - again.

DJ Paul Malo started the party by introducing the new Mr. & Mrs. B.  After the first dance, Courtney’s parents welcomed Jeff into the family by presenting the Red Sox fan with a NY Yankees hat. Jeff thought it would be a good thing to have around when the Sox beat the the Yanks in the playoffs. Hmmm - I wonder where that hat is now. :)

After dinner, Courtney & Jeff surprised everyone with a little Salsa. Not the food - the dance! Courtney changed into a short dress (that was made for spinning in), strapped on her black high heels and she and Jeff heated up the dance floor.  By the end of the night, the high heels were replaced by pink flip flops but Courtney & Jeff were still paying attention to each other, dancing together, and kissing until it was time to say goodnight to their guests.

Jivon & Anthony - Wedding Highlights

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

“I Gotta Feeling…That tonight’s gonna be a good night”.  That was the theme song for the night - you could hear it blaring from the bridal party’s limo, Jivon and Anthony were introduced to it, and when it played later in the night that’s when things really got wild (think beer shower and crowd surfing groom).

Our day started with bridal prep at Jivon’s parents house where the girls got ready.  Tina from Flawless by Tina was already there doing her magic (I had one of her brides cry five times during the day and her makeup stayed perfect through it all).  Jivon’s makeup even got put to the test early when her bouquet from Worthington Flowers arrived, along with the flowers and note that Anthony sent her (always a good move guys).  And speaking of Anthony, we threw in a little groom prep in this one - I wasn’t there, but from the footage I edited, I would have to guess that none of the guys were the stars of their high school basketball teams. ;)

The ceremony took place at St. Mary’s Church in Waterford where Anthony’s emotions got the better of him for a few moments and Jivon couldn’t help but follow up the kiss with a big “Wooo!”.   There was extra time between the ceremony and reception for photos which was great.  It was our first time working with Joe & JP from Joe Elario Photography and we had a blast.  They captured some absolutely amazing images of Jivon & Anthony that you must check out if you haven’t already seen them (click here).

The reception room at Saratoga National was beautiful - decked out with all white flowers with a splash of gold accent on the tables.  Once the guests entered, you could tell it would be a fun wedding.  It was in the air.  Mike Garrasi from Music Man Entertainment guided the party - from the intros, to the toasts, to the non-stop dancing where every generation took to the floor.  We also got to see a former bride, a future bride, and my favorite guest/bridesmaid/MOH, Alison - who was also my golf cart chauffeur during the photoshoot. (Thanks again!)

Jivon & Anthony ended the night with a special song where everyone joined them on the dance floor.  The crowd followed it up with chants of “one more song” for the party they didn’t want to end.
